Heir to the throne of the elven court, Prince Orrin Nightstar has enough on his plate without an ever-changing Guard. Having lost a record number of Guardians to the wiles of love, he’s beginning to think he might be cursed, doomed to lead others to happiness while never finding it for himself.
It could be worse, though. He could be mated to the Guardian of the Underworld.
Erus--not Eros, thank you very much—hasn’t guarded the iron gates for millennium. It’s cold. Dark. Lonely. And frankly, boring AF. Besides, why should he limit himself when he can outsource the job? Instead, he devotes his time to overseeing the Guardians who protect the royal families.
And someone is screwing up the system.
He never expected that someone to be his own mate. Nor did he foresee the chain of events their meeting would set into motion. After thousands of years of playing by his own rules, the consequences of his arrogance are finally catching up to him.
Now that he has Orrin, the stakes are even higher, and unless he can restore order to the Underworld, his new mate will be the one to pay the price.

excerpt
Rooted in place by some invisible force, unable to move or even speak, all Orrin could do was watch in shock and horror as the dark figure approached.
Stopping a few feet away, he dropped his sword, which disappeared in a cloud of smoke after clattering to the ground. With his gaze still locked with Orrin’s, he held his right hand out, catching the fedora and casually placing it back atop his head.
The flames that burned in his eyes dimmed, leaving irises of burnt orange ringed in black. With high cheekbones, a strong jaw, and a sharp nose, he was quite handsome.
At least, that was what Orrin might have thought if he wasn’t practically pissing himself in terror.
“You must be Orrin Nightstar. I’m Erus.”
Whoa. Impossibly deep, with a slight rumble, his voice reminded Orrin of distant thunder.
Suddenly, he was released from the invisible bonds that had held him immobile, and he sucked in a deep breath as he stumbled backwards. With retreat the only thought in his mind, he hadn’t taken into account where he stood, and his foot caught the edge of the step and toppled him off balance.
Easily, almost absently, Erus reached out, hooking a strong arm around his waist to keep him upright. Smiling to reveal long, lethal canines, he used his index finger to brush away a lock of hair that had fallen into Orrin’s face.
“Careful, asteraki.”
Little star. No titles or honorifics. Just little star. Since he didn’t know what the hell to make of that, he decided to ignore it.
“You said your name is Eros?”
A growl rumbled from the male’s chest. “No. I’m nothing like that brainless twit.”
“Right.” What the bloody hell was even happening? “Sorry.”
“My name is Erus…as in Cerberus.”
